CMHVI's service model includes the following components:

• education and prevention
• screening and risk factor control services
• surgical/clinical intervention
• cardiac rehabilitation and disease management
• clinical research.

Integral to this five-point model is CMHVI's team of physicians, physician assistants, perfusionists, nurses, technicians and others who deliver top-quality care. This staff serves patients within the framework of "single-stay" nursing care model which bundles the recovery and inpatient nursing processes into a seamless, comprehensive system that focuses on establishing a relationship between patients, families and care providers. This patient care team possesses a cross-section of skills and attributes necessary to meet each patient's changing needs.

Essential to the care team is CMHVI's physician staff comprised of cardiothoracic surgeons, interventional cardiologists, and diagnostic cardiologists. A pediatric cardiologist who specializes in treating children with heart ailments is affiliated with Central Maine Pediatrics, a clinical department of Central Maine Medical Center.
